PRK (potorefractive keratectomy) is surface laser treatment without protective layer in the form of corneal flap. The healing excimer laser works in PRK on the basis of dioptric expression of the disorder.
PRK is the oldest laser treatment method which has been validated in millions of satisfied patients. LASEK as well as epiLASIK and ASA are names used for technical modifications of PRK.
PRK/LASEK is a method suitable for patients for whom price is the most important factor. But PRK is suitable only for low myopic prescriptions. PRK/LASEK is not suitable for plus disorders (long-sightedness), astigmatism and rapidly progressive disorders.
The main disadvantage is a longer healing time (from 3 to 4 days) connected with a higher level of discomfort and the low long term stability of the results.
PRK/LASEK is not suitable for plus disorders (long-sightedness), astigmatism and rapidly progressive disorders.
To our patients who prefer the highest quality, comfort and safety we reccomend femtoLASIK and ReLEx SMILE treatments. These types of surgery are chosen by 96% of our patients.
